Overview
The Distinguished Fellowship, also known as the Award-Winning Fellow, is the highest recognition given by the Canadian Academy for Research & STEM Advancement (CARSA). It is by invitation only and reserved for individuals who have achieved something truly remarkable. It is conferred on those whose work has made a recognizable difference in their field and in society, earning them a respected award or honor that highlights their professional impact. This honor is not based on academic degrees, titles, positions, or years of experience, but on the real substance, creativity, and lasting impact of a person’s work. Distinguished Fellows reflect CARSA’s belief in honoring people whose ideas and innovations have expanded knowledge, inspired others, and created real, positive change across different fields and communities. Merit Over Status
The Distinguished Fellowship is not based on academic degrees, job titles, age, or years of experience. Instead, it recognizes individuals whose work shows genuine originality, quality, and measurable impact within their field or in society.Only those whose efforts have earned a respected and well-recognized award or honor that reflects meaningful achievement are considered for invitation.

Invitation Only
The Distinguished Fellowship is not open for public application. Candidates are personally invited after a careful internal review and nomination process led by the Fellowship Committee and approved by the Head of the head of the membership committee. Invitations are given only to those whose achievements have been independently recognized through a respected award and who reflect the Academy’s values of excellence, creativity, and positive impact.

Recognition Through Notable Awards
To be eligible, candidates must have received a respected award or honor that acknowledges meaningful contributions to research, innovation, leadership, or service benefiting their field or society.
Examples include:

Internal Peer Review by Distinguished Fellows
Before any invitation is issued, each potential candidate is evaluated confidentially by a panel of Distinguished Fellows, who are themselves respected, award-winning leaders in their fields.This internal review ensures that every invitation reflects professional integrity, independent judgment, and CARSA’s highest standards.
Reviewers consider:
